Cross-country runners Collins, Rausch, Bennett receive academic honors

Volleyball
Winamac def. Boone Grove, 25-6, 25-12, 25-20 (Thursday): The Winamac volleyball team handled Boone Grove in a Class 2A, Sectional 34 quarterfinal at Boone Grove Thursday.
Winamac (7-15) will match up with Hebron (3-24) in a semifinal at 11 a.m. Eastern Saturday.
In the second quarterfinal on Thursday, North Judson knocked off North Newton 25-9, 25-16, 25-17 and earned a semifinal match with Rensselaer at approximately 12:30 p.m. Eastern Saturday.
The sectional final will be held at 7 p.m. Eastern Saturday.
Cross-country
Collins, Rausch, Bennett receive academic honors: Winamac cross-country runners Kate Collins, Emily Rausch and Carson Bennett were named to the Indiana Association of Track and Cross-Country Coaches Academic All-State Honorable Mention teams.
Rausch and Bennett are seniors. Collins is a junior.
Collins and Rausch are members of the Winamac girls cross-country team that has already won Hoosier North and sectional titles. The sectional title is the first in school history.
Winamac will run at the Logansport regional at 10:30 a.m.
Middle school cross-country
Kroft wins Hoosier North girls title: Kandace Kroft, a sixth-grader at Winamac Middle School, won the Hoosier North middle school cross-country title in 11:23 at Winamac Town Park on Oct. 3 and helped the Lady Warriors to the team title.
Avery Wegner was third in 12:20, Kadence Hoover was sixth in 12:48, Maddie Kruzick was 12th in 13:32, Lyla Corcoran was 15th in 13:53, Haven Kretchmer was 24th in 15:09, and Zavannah Osborn was 26th in 15:19.
In the boys race, Will Malchow was third in 11:25, Brendan Hines was fifth in 11:34, Logan Fredel was sixth in 12:03, Tucker Blackman was 10th in 12:19, Ivan Cardenas was 18th in 12:56, Wyatt Bain was 19th in 13:03, and Joel Showley was 31st in 14:21.
Team results for the boys race were not made available.
Pioneer’s Leighton Dodt won the boys race in 10:34.
