Winamac girls take 22nd at New Prairie regional behind frontrunner Hoover

The Winamac girls cross-country team scored 670 points and finished 22nd out of 24 complete teams at the New Prairie regional Saturday, ending their season.

Senior Kadence Hoover was the frontrunner, taking 109th place in a field of 238 runners in 21:42. Avery Wegner was 177th in 23:03, Kandace Kroft was 196th in 23:42, Claire Goodman was 213th in 24:19, Madelyn Goodman was 234th in 234th, Mershai Loehmer was 237th in 30:15, and Jersey Himes was 238th in 32:29.

The cutoff for an individual to advance was 20:03.

Lake Central won the team title with 76 points. Penn (80), Valparaiso (125), Morgan Township (175) and Goshen (215) also advanced to state.

Lake Central sophomore Macey Thompson was the individual champion in 17:46.

In the boys race, Winamac’s two runners competing as individuals had their season end. Junior Logan Fredel ran a 17:27 and finished in 71st place, and senior Dylan Guilford ran an 18:15 and finished in 137th in a field of 245 runners.

The cutoff for individuals to advance was 16:40.

Northridge took the team crown with 76 points. Penn (94), Valparaiso (98), Lake Central (163) and Portage (170) also earned state berths.

Westview’s Noah Bontrager was the individual champion in 15:13.
