Westfield’s Smith named Mr. Basketball

Boys basketball

Braden Smith, a 6-0 guard from Westfield, has been named the Indiana Mr. Basketball in online voting of media and boys varsity coaches.

Smith will wear the No. 1 jersey for the Indiana All-Stars during their annual series against the Kentucky All-Stars.

Smith averaged 18.3 points, 6 rebounds, 6 assists and 1.9 steals per game. He finished his career with 1,629 points. He is the first player from Westfield to win Mr. Basketball.

Smith is a Purdue recruit and will become the 13th Mr. Basketball to play for Purdue.

Smith received 128 votes. Homestead’s Fletcher Loyer was second with 109 votes.

The Indiana-Kentucky All-Star Games will be played at the Owensboro SportsCenter in Owensboro, Ky., on June 10 and at the Southport Fieldhouse in Indianapolis on June 11.

The list of Indiana All-Stars was released Monday. No RTC players were selected.
