Week 7 roundup: Derf’s 3 TDs help Valley keep Western winless

Triton routs Caston; Pioneer beats Culver, stays tied for Hoosier North lead; Winamac falls to No. 1 Judson

Tippecanoe Valley 31, Western 14 (Friday): Brock Derf ran for 118 yards and three touchdowns, and Hunter Stage threw a 56-yard touchdown pass to Owen Omondi for the visiting Vikings in a win over winless Western Friday.

Valley (5-2) had twice as many rushing yards as the Panthers (306-153) and also had a 75-44 advantage in passing yards.

Valley also committed no turnovers after committing four the previous week in a shutout loss to Jimtown.

Stage completed all four passes he threw.

Wyatt Hart had 10 carries for 82 yards, and Grady Moriarty had 12 carries for 81 yards. Omondi had three catches for 73 yards.

Gage Overbey converted all four of his extra-point attempts and also made a 28-yard field goal.

Brady Comer had a 92-yard kickoff return for a touchdown for Western (0-7). Kyler Norman threw a 16-yard touchdown pass to Peyton Kauble.

Valley led 17-14 at halftime.

Triton 42, Caston 0 (Friday): Ashton Bowyer ran 17 times for 77 yards for the Comets in a homecoming loss to conference rival Triton Friday.

Gavin Mollenkopf completed three passes, all to Logan Mollenkopf.

Lane Halterman and London Herd had four tackles each. Bowyer and Parker Zimpleman had three tackles each.

Triton led 28-0 after one quarter, and they tacked on two touchdowns in a 24-second span in the second quarter to go up 42-0.

Pioneer 45, Culver 20 (Friday): Noah VanMeter ran for two touchdowns and caught a 55-yard touchdown pass, and Shiloh Rine also ran for two touchdowns for the Panthers in a Hoosier North home win over the Cavaliers Friday.

Micah Rans also had a touchdown run. Phillip McFatridge converted all six of his extra-point tries and also kicked a 31-yard field goal.

Pioneer outrushed Culver 355-38 and did not commit a turnover. 

Pioneer led 38-6 at halftime and extended the lead to 45-6 on a 44-yard touchdown run from Rine in the third quarter, which necessitated a running clock for the rest of the game.

Ethan Binion ran for a touchdown and caught a 72-yard touchdown pass on a screen from Jonas McCuen. McCuen also had a 1-yard touchdown run. 

Rans also had an interception on defense.

North Judson 48, Winamac 6 (Friday): Addison Allen averted a shutout with a 21-yard touchdown run in the fourth quarter, but the visiting Warriors fell to Class 1A, No. 1 North Judson Friday.

Allen had a team-high 71 yards rushing, and he also had a 13-yard reception.

Ethan Burgess had a 43-yard reception on offense and also had an interception on defense.

Aiden Schooler had 48 yards passing.

Talen Garner had eight tackles and two assists on defense.

North Judson had a 321-109 advantage in rushing yards.

North Judson led 41-0 at halftime, and the entire second half was played with a running clock, per the IHSAA Mercy Rule.

Winamac dropped to 2-4 overall and 1-4 in the Hoosier North. They have lost three straight games. They have also lost their last four meetings with North Judson.

Allen’s touchdown run ended a streak of four straight shutouts for the Blue Jays.
