Week 5 football roundup: Valley rushes for 436 yards, knocks off LaVille

Bowyer, Yarber star as Caston gets first win; Pioneer beats NM, now 4-1; No. 1 Judson blanks Culver; Winamac falls to No. 6 Triton

Tippecanoe Valley 32, LaVille 21 (Friday): Grady Moriarty ran for a career-high 178 yards and three touchdowns on seven carries, and Wes Parker ran for 132 yards and a touchdown on seven carries as the Vikings rallied from an 11-point deficit for an Indiana Northern State Conference win Friday.

Brandon Stiles added 12 carries for 60 yards, and Berock Derf had 31 yards on four carries.

Valley had 436 yards rushing while holding LaVille to 47 yards on the ground.

Valley went two for three on fourth down conversions while LaVille was one for eight.

LaVille led 21-10 in the third quarter before Valley finished with 22 unanswered points.

Moriarty had touchdown runs of 65 and 63 yards in the fourth quarter.

Gage Overbey kicked a 37-yard field goal on the final play of the first half, and he also was three for three on extra points.

Valley is 4-1, 1-1 INSC. LaVille is 2-3, 1-1.

Caston 48, South Central (Union Mills) 14 (Friday): Jabez Yarber ran for 73 yards and two touchdowns and also had an 83-yard return on the opening kickoff of the second half as the host Comets broke a five-game losing streak dating back to last season.

Ashton Bowyer added a team and career-high 173 yards rushing on 17 carries and a touchdowns.

Gavin Mollenkopf completed all four of his passes for 72 yards and two touchdowns and also ran for 48 yards and a score. He also had an interception on defense.

Logan Mollenkopf had a 39-yard touchdown reception, and Lucius Edson had a 20-yard touchdown reception.

Brody Brewer contributed 37 yards rushing on three carries and a 14-yard reception.

Yarber and Tucker Woolever had nine tackles each. Woolever also blocked a punt.

Brewer had seven tackles, and Bowyer had six.

Caston led 34-6 at halftime and extended the lead to 48-6 in the third quarter.

Drew McGrew converted six of seven extra point attempts.

Pioneer 21, North Miami 14 (Friday): Micah Rans ran for 69 yards and two touchdowns, and Noah VanMeter ran for a team-high 73 yards and a score for the Class 1A, No. 10 Panthers in a homecoming win over No. 14 North Miami Friday.

Pioneer trailed 14-7 at halftime but scored on consecutive drives in the third quarter.

Rans had a 2-yard touchdown run on an option keeper, but Phillip McFatridge missed the extra point, preserving a one-point North Miami lead.

Rans then scored again on a 6-yard option keeper, and McFatridge ran for a two-point conversion to complete the scoring with 2:38 to go in the third quarter.

North Miami’s Ryan Meredith had a 35-yard touchdown run and a 26-yard touchdown pass to Avery Piel.

Triton 28, Winamac 0 (Friday): Tearson Wolford ran for 53 yards, but the Winamac football team lost a Hoosier North home game to Class 1A, No. 6 Triton Friday.

Winamac was held to 97 yards of offense, and they committed three turnovers.

Dante Workman returned an interception 20 yards for a touchdown and also had a 22-yard touchdown run in the third quarter.

Ben McFarland threw an 18-yard touchdown pass to Wayne Reichert, and Jayden Overmyer had a 7-yard touchdown run for Triton.

Aiden Schooler had five solo tackles and 12 assists for Winamac (2-2, 1-2). Addison Allen had 10 tackles, a tackle for loss and a fumble recovery. Talen Garner added 10 tackles, and Wolford had eight.

Schooler also had two receptions for 27 yards on offense.

North Judson 70, Culver 0 (Friday): Top-ranked North Judson ran for 445 yards and added another 73 through the air in a Hoosier North road win over Culver Friday.

No Blue Jay had more than six carries or more than one reception.

North Judson also recorded their third straight shutout.

North Judson led 54-0 at halftime.

Culver has lost the last 11 meetings to North Judson.
