Week 3 roundup: Valley runs for 410 yards in win over Hammond Morton

Caston’s Bowyer runs for over 137 yards in loss to NM; Pioneer shuts out Winamac for 3rd straight year; Culver loses Hoosier North opener to Triton

Tippecanoe Valley 35, Hammond Morton 23 (Friday): The Class 3A, No. 8 Valley offense accumulated 410 rushing yards and had five different players run for touchdowns in a home win over Hammond Morton, a Class 5A team, Friday.

Wes Parker ran for 118 yards and a touchdown, Brock Derf added 96 yards and a score, and Grady Moriarty had 82 yards rushing and a touchdown. Brandon Stiles had a 1-yard touchdown run, and Asher McGriff had a 30-yard scoring run after picking up a fumbled snap.

Gage Overbey converted all five of his extra point tries.

Valley held Hammond Morton to 114 yards rushing.

Dashawn Woods ran for 95 yards and a touchdown for the Governors. Ameer Daniels and Martel Kelly each caught a touchdown pass from Holland Harris.

Valley led 14-10 at halftime and extended the lead to 28-17 after three quarters.

Hammond Morton attempted 29 passes while Valley quarterback Hunter Stage attempted one.

Valley is 3-0. Hammond Morton fell to 0-3.

Valley’s next four games are on the road, starting with a trip to Class 3A, No. 7 Knox at 7:30 p.m. Eastern this Friday.

North Miami 42, Caston 14 (Friday): Ashton Bowyer ran 25 times for 137 yards and a touchdown, and Jabez Yarber threw a 10-yard touchdown pass to Logan Mollenkopf for the visiting Comets in a Hoosier North loss to Class 1A, No. 14 North Miami Friday.

Gavin Mollenkopf had 30 yards rushing and 16 yards passing. He threw two interceptions. He also had seven tackles on defense.

Yarber ran for 25 yards but lost a fumble, and he also tied Tucker Woolever for the team lead in tackles with 11 and also blocked a kick.

Bowyer also completed two of four passes for 10 yards. He had six tackles on defense.

Gage Minniear had five tackles, and Brody Brewer, Parker Zimpleman and Cameron McFatridge had four tackles each.

North Miami (3-0, 1-0 Hoosier North) led 29-7 at halftime and extended the lead to 36-7 after three quarters.

Caston is 0-3, 0-1.

Pioneer 35, Winamac 0 (Friday): Micah Rans ran for 86 yards and three touchdowns and also threw a touchdown pass to Noah VanMeter, and the Class 1A, No. 16 Pioneer defense shut out conference and sectional rival Winamac for the third straight year in Royal Center Friday.

VanMeter had a team-high 138 yards rushing and also ran for a touchdown. His 14-yard touchdown reception gave Pioneer a 27-0 lead in the second quarter.

Shiloh Rine ran for 39 yards on his only carry, and he also had an interception on defense.

Eli Guffey had four solo tackles, seven assists, three tackles for loss and a pass broken up. J.J. Solano had five solo tackles, four assists and two tackles for loss. VanMeter had five tackles, five assists and 1.5 tackles for loss.

Tearson Wolford led Winamac with 69 yards rushing. Ethan Burgess had 22 yards, Addison Allen had 14, and Xavier Adriano had 11 yards rushing to go with 29 yards passing.

Allen, Burgess and Wolford had one catch each.

Allen had seven tackles and two assists on defense. Talen Garner had seven tackles, an assist and two tackles for loss. Hayden Taylor had an interception to go with three solo tackles and four assists. Burgess had four tackles and three assists.

Pioneer shut out Winamac for the third straight year and for the seventh time since 2015.

Triton 49, Culver 8 (Friday): Ethan Binion ran for 65 yards and a touchdown in the second half, but the Cavaliers lost their Hoosier North opener to Triton Friday.

Anthony Sommers added 21 yards rushing, and he also recovered a fumble on defense.

Drake Zorich had five solo tackles and two assists. Caleb McCuen had an interception.

Triton had a 320-99 advantage in rushing yards.

Also, Gage Riffle threw a 97-yard touchdown pass to Jacob Hudson.

Class 1A, No. 9 Triton led 42-0 at halftime. They defeated Culver for the sixth straight meeting.
