Valley boys basketball roundup: Akase, Cooksey, Cowan score in double figures as Vikings rout John Glenn

Tippecanoe Valley 67, John Glenn 37 (Friday): Stephen Akase scored a game-high 17 points, and Ian Cooksey and Davis Cowan combined for six 3-pointers in the first half for the visiting Vikings in a rout of John Glenn Friday.

Valley jumped out to a 23-4 lead after one quarter and extended the lead to 40-17 at halftime.

Valley made more free throws (14) than John Glenn attempted (12).

Valley has won two straight games and six of their last seven. John Glenn (1-9) lost their eighth straight.

This was the teams’ first meeting since Valley lost to John Glenn 35-30 in the 2024 sectional final. John Glenn also eliminated Valley in the 2023 sectional.

Ian Cooksey scored six of his game-high 15 points in the fourth quarter, and Blain Sheetz and DeOndre Hamilton had 11 each for the visiting Vikings in a come-from-behind win over Plymouth on Jan. 3.

Stephen Akase added nine points, and Davis Cowan had eight, including five in the fourth quarter.

Preston Wolfe scored 14, and Trenton Van Duyne had 13 for the Pilgrims.

Plymouth led 28-22 at halftime and still led 35-33 after three quarters.

Valley made more free throws (16) than Plymouth attempted (11).

Valley beat Plymouth for the sixth straight year.
