Scales notches double-double, but Caston falls to Carroll in regular season home finale

Girls basketball

Carroll (Flora) 45, Caston 31 (Wednesday): Isabel Scales scored 14 points and grabbed 11 rebounds, but the Class 1A, No. 4 Caston girls basketball team could not overcome 31 percent shooting in a home loss to Class 2A, No. 5 Carroll (Flora) Wednesday.

Caston also missed all eight of its 3-point tries.

Macee Hinderlider had five points and nine rebounds. Addison Zimpleman and Madi Douglass also had five points each.

Alli Harness, a 2,000-point scorer and Western Michigan recruit, scored a game-high 28 for the Lady Cougars.

Carroll improved to 19-3. Caston fell to 18-2 going into tonight’s regular season finale at Bremen.

The game was originally scheduled for Tuesday but postponed to Wednesday due to inclement weather.

Caston seniors Scales, Alexa Finke, Annie Harsh, Hinderlider and Zimpleman were honored in a postgame ceremony following their final regular season home game.

The team could play another game at home in the regional on Feb. 10 if they win their sectional and the IHSAA assigns that game to their home gym.
