John Glenn 3, Rochester 0 (Monday)
Ian McNeill scored twice, and Oscar Villa also scored for the visiting Falcons in a win over Rochester at the Brent Blacketor Memorial Sports Complex Monday.
Goalkeepers Brayden Whitmer and Logan Bryant combined for three saves to get the shutout.
John Glenn led 2-0 at halftime.
The Zebras fell to 6-7-1 with the loss.
Despite the loss, Rochester coach Eric Backus complimented his players afterwards.
“I thought we played real well,” Backus said. “When we communicated right with them. We actually possessed it in the attacking third for a good portion of
the first half. I think the kids were really excited about our sectional draw. So I think they’re pretty locked in right now. So it’s a pretty good Glenn team.”
Backus said the team had “a couple little dumb mistakes that cost us.”
“Our effort was there,” Backus said. “I was happy with the way we played effort-wise. I just told the boys, ‘We got down by three, and then we stopped communicating for about 15 minutes there in the second half, and it got sloppy. It got ugly.’ And when we started communicating again, it looked a lot better. With this team, if we are communicating, we play well.
“And that’s all it comes down to really.”
Rochester hosts Culver in its regular season finale at 5:30 p.m. today.
They will play Peru at 6 p.m. Monday in a Class 2A, Sectional 22 quarterfinal at Maconaquah.
