Pioneer sports briefs: IHSAA gives Pioneer 650 girls semistate tickets

Pioneer boys win back-to-back conference games vs. Culver, North Judson

Girls basketball

The IHSAA has awarded all four schools competing at the Logansport girls basketball semistate Saturday 650 tickets each.

Tickets are $10 and can be purchased online only at https://secure.payk12.com/school/_/285/events/192649.

The game can also be viewed on television on a pay-per-view basis at ihsaatv.org. Cost is $10 per game, or one can view all eight semistate games statewide for $15.

No. 7 Pioneer will play No. 13 Northfield in the Class 1A north semistate at 1 p.m. Saturday at Logansport.

Boys basketball

Pioneer 46, Culver 27 (Friday): Ezra Lewellen nailed two 3-pointers and scored a game-high 14 points, and Drew McKaig also hit a pair of 3s and added 10 for the Panthers in a Hoosier North home win over Culver Friday.

Owen Clingler led Culver with 10 points.

Already leading 23-17 at halftime, Pioneer outscored Culver 19-2 in the third quarter.

Pioneer won their second conference game in as many days and improved to 6-10 overall, 3-3 Hoosier North. Culver dropped to 6-11, 1-5.

Pioneer 54, North Judson 49 (OT, Thursday): Christian Scott scored 13 points, and Drew McKaig scored five of his 11 points in overtime as the host Panthers recorded a Hoosier North win over North Judson Thursday.

Ezra Lewellen added 12 points for Pioneer, including six in the fourth quarter.

Kelson Jordan led North Judson with 13 points.

North Judson led 20-18 at halftime and 34-27 after three quarters. The game was tied at 41 after regulation.

Pioneer beat North Judson for the third straight year. North Judson (3-10, 0-5 Hoosier North) lost their eighth straight game overall.

Cade Short scored seven of his team-high 15 in the fourth quarter for Knox.

Pioneer led 19-17 at halftime, but Knox led 25-23 after three quarters.

Girls diving

Pioneer’s Ulrich takes 9th at regional, does not advance (Feb. 9): Pioneer senior Grace Ulrich finished ninth out of 20 divers at the Valparaiso girls diving regional Feb. 9, ending her season.

The top eight advanced to state.

Ulrich scored 351.80 points. Culver Academy’s Claire Feick, who took eighth, scored 357.35.

Northridge’s Jiselle Miller won with 475.45 points.
