Boys basketball
Tri-County 49, Pioneer 45 (Friday): Aidan Quillen scored 11 of his game-high 23 points in the fourth quarter, and Noah Miller added 10, but the Pioneer boys basketball team fell to Tri-County in a Class 1A, Sectional 50 semifinal at Tri-County Friday.
Micah Rans added eight for Pioneer, who finished 14-11. They remain without a sectional title since 2013.
Grayson Schneider led Tri-County with 13 points. Tri-County won despite not making a 3-pointer.
Tri-County led 26-15 at halftime and still led 34-24 after three quarters before hanging on despite Quillen’s scoring spree.
The teams were playing one week after Tri-County beat Pioneer 46-40 in the regular season finale for both teams.
In search of their third straight sectional crown, the Cavaliers improved to 13-11 and will play at 6 p.m. today against West Central.

Pioneer 28, North Newton 20 (Wednesday): Aidan Quillen scored 10 of his 12 points in the fourth quarter, and Brodie Howard hit three 3-pointers in the first half to lead the Pioneer boys basketball team past North Newton at Tri-County in a Class 1A, Sectional 50 quarterfinal Wednesday.
Shiloh Rine added four, Lucas Perry had two, and Micah Rans had one.
Jackson Alexander led North Newton with nine points, though he did not score in the fourth quarter.
Joe Stalewski added six, including four in the fourth quarter.
Pioneer led 14-12 at halftime and 18-16 after three quarters.
North Newton came in allowing 57 points per game. The 28 points allowed were a season low.
North Newton committed 20 turnovers and did not attempt a free throw.
Pioneer improved to 14-10 and will play Tri-County, a 58-18 winner over North White in Wednesday’s other quarterfinal, in the semifinals at 7:30 p.m. Friday.
North Newton finished 2-22 and on a nine-game losing streak.
