Mellott scores 33, helps Valley break 5-year losing streak vs. Northfield

Tippecanoe Valley 61, Northfield 28 (Thursday): Kaydence Mellott drained five 3-pointers and scored a game-high 33 points, and Molly Moriarty, Kelsey Cox and Chesnee Miller

added six each for the visiting Lady Vikings as they remained the only unbeaten team in Three Rivers Conference play.

Mellott had 11 points in the first quarter as Valley broke out to a 17-7 lead.

Mellott also made 8 of 10 free throws. She has scored in double figures in all 17 of Valley’s games this season. She came in averaging 19.3 points per game.

Defensively, Valley held Northfield to 11 points in the second half.

Camryn Kuhn led Northfield with 11 points. Hannah Holmes had 10.

The win broke Valley’s five-year losing streak to Northfield.

The JV game was canceled due to Northfield’s lack of numbers.

Valley is 5-0 in the TRC. North Miami has one loss, and all other TRC teams have at least two conference defeats.

Valley hosts Rochester on Jan. 14.
