McCune scores 12, A. Berndt adds 10 as Culver advances to sectional semis

Culver 44, Oregon-Davis 32 (Thursday): Ava McCune scored all 12 of her points in the second half, and Ashlynn Berndt hit three 3-pointers and scored 10 to lead the Lady Cavaliers past Oregon-Davis in a Class 1A, Sectional 51 quarterfinal at Oregon-Davis Thursday.

Brooke Davis added eight points, and Brianna Schlemmer hit two 3-pointers in the first quarter for six.

Culver led 15-7 after one quarter but trailed 18-17 at halftime and 30-29 at one point in the fourth quarter before finishing on a 15-2 run.

McCune outscored the entire O-D team 9-5 in the fourth quarter.

Culver also beat O-D 62-37 in their Hoosier North meeting Dec. 10.

O-D had won the three previous sectional meetings with Culver in 2012, 2014 and 2020.

Culver will next face North Judson, a 52-24 winner over South Central (Union Mills), in the semifinals at 8 p.m. Eastern tonight. The Triton-Elkhart Christian semifinal will precede it at 6:30 p.m. Eastern.
