Hoover runs 20:46, leads Winamac to Hoosier North girls title

Boys: Dodt’s 16:36 helps Pioneer edge Winamac for title

Cross-country

Kadence Hoover ran a 20:46 to win the individual title, and Avery Wegner and Kandace Kroft also made the all-conference team to lead the Winamac girls cross-country to their fifth consecutive Hoosier North title at Winamac Town Park Saturday.

Meanwhile, Pioneer won their second straight boys conference title and their third title in four years by scoring 46 points and edging Winamac, who had 47. Caston was third with 67.

The Winamac girls scored 25 points and beat runner-up Caston by 14 points. Either Winamac or Caston has won every girls cross-country title since the formation of the conference in 2015. Pioneer was third with 59 points.

Hoover was fourth at last year’s conference meet. She improved on her 2023 conference time by 18 seconds.

Wegner was third in 21:23, and Kroft was fifth in 22:02.

Also, Claire Goodman made honorable mention by finishing 11th in 22:59. Madelyn Goodman (19th place, 24:29), Brody Goodman (30th place, 28:00) and Mershai Loehmer (31st place, 29:46) rounded out the Winamac lineup.

Caston runners making the all-conference team included freshman Hannah Rogers, who was fourth in 21:43, and junior Camila Hernandez-Rios, who was eighth in 22:19. Alea Lowe ran a 23:08 and finished 12th to earn honorable mention status.

Other Caston runners included Myli Rude, who was 18th in 24:26; Jaded Aguilar, who was 22nd in 25:17; Emmie Lowe, who was 26th in 26:06; and Trinity Zimmerman, who was 33rd in 31:49.

Pioneer had no first-team all-conference runners, but Avery Haselby (13th place, 23:12) and Kylie Jamerson (15th place, 23:20) both made honorable mention.

Other Pioneer winners included Ellie Hines, who was 16th in 23:54; Laylynn Malchow, who was 23rd in 25:55; Allison Martinez-Domingo, who was 32nd in 30:46, and Asher Leis, who was 34th in 32:52.

The other area runner to make the all-conference team was Argos junior Lexi Gibson, who outran Wegner for second behind Hoover in 21:22. Gibson was the only runner representing Argos in the girls race.

Culver’s frontrunner was freshman Coraline Day, who was 21st in 25:16. Savanna Harrington was 29th in 27:46.

Pioneer won the boys title behind senior Leighton Dodt, who won his second straight boys individual title in 16:36 to best a field of 35 runners.

Other Pioneer runners to make the all-conference team included Dane Bowditch, who was third in 17:05; and Elliott Cooper, who was eighth in 19:11. Freshman Eli Hines took 15th in 20:00 and earned honorable mention.

Aayden Dimmock, who was 22nd in 20:40; Kaleb Boller, who was 24th in 20:49; and Kevin Gluth, who was 30th in 22:00, rounded out the Pioneer lineup.

Winamac’s Logan Fredel ran a 16:46 and finished second behind Dodt. Dylan Guilford, who was fourth in 17:15, and Kannon Hoover, who was 10th in 19:19, joined him on the all-conference team.

Joel Showley, who was timed in 19:46, finished 13th to also make honorable mention. Other Winamac runners included Braylen Becker, who was 20th in 20:32; Zephir Perry, who was 23rd in 20:43; and Corbin Holehan, who was 26th in 21:14.

Kane Finke and Reed Sommers made the all-conference team while Jack Brumett made honorable mention for Caston.

Finke was fifth in 18:20, and Sommers was seventh in 18:55. Brumett, a freshman, was 11th in 19:32.

Other Caston runners included Isaac Albright, who was 21st in 20:37; Tyler Remley, who was 27th in 21:15; Josiah Helt, who was 31st in 22:14; and Malakai Clayton, who was 33rd in 22:41.

Preston Mollette, the lone Argos runner, was 32nd in 22:41.

Culver does not have a boys cross-country team.
