Culver sports briefs: Boys golf team beats LaVille

Softball falls to Plymouth, Caston

Softball

Culver Academy at Culver, ppd.: The Culver Academy-Culver softball game scheduled for Wednesday was postponed due to rain and rescheduled for 5 p.m. April 30 at Culver.

Caston 12, Culver 0 (5 innings, Tuesday): Addison Zimpleman pitched a no-hitter with no walks and 11 strikeouts and also went 2 for 2 with two runs scored at the plate for the host Lady Comets in a win over Culver in their Hoosier North opener Tuesday.

Isabel Scales added a pair of doubles. Kinzie Mollenkopf and Macee Hinderlider each had a single and two RBIs. Annie Harsh had a double and two RBIs. Haley Logan also had two RBIs. Bailey Harness and Makena Middleton each had a hit and an RBI. Maddi Smith had a single and a walk.

Caston scored nine runs in the first inning.

Caston committed two errors, which led to Culver’s only baserunners.

A.J. Hinds allowed 12 runs (six earned) over four innings and took the loss. She allowed 10 hits and walked two while fanning two.

Plymouth 18, Culver 6 (5 innings, Monday): Kaitlyn Kanschat had a single, a double and two RBIs, and Kaylee Hamilton doubled and drove in two runs, but Culver lost at home to Plymouth Monday.

Kaleigh Fritch had a hit and an RBI, and Luci Overmyer also had a hit. Freshman Meredith Gordon had an RBI.

Fritch took the loss in the circle after allowing nine hits and 11 runs (seven earned) in 3 ⅓ innings. She walked three, hit three batters and struck out one.

Culver committed eight errors that led to nine unearned runs for Plymouth.

Plymouth scored seven runs in the top of the first and never trailed. The Lady Pilgrims won their first game since May 2019.

Culver Academy 31, Culver 1 (5 innings, Thursday): Reese Herrell had two hits and scored a run for Culver in a home loss to Culver Academy in their season opener Thursday.

Culver Academy scored 10 runs in the first inning.

Culver pitchers walked nine and hit three batters.

Boys golf

Culver 233, LaVille 257 (April 6): Rylan Voter shot a 55 to lead Culver in a season-opening win at The Golf Club at Swan Lake Resort in Plymouth on April 6.

Steven Pugh added a 56, Dalton Powell had a 59, Auston Zehner had a 63, and Tucker Fisher had a 65.

LaVille’s Kyle Walker was the medalist with a 52.
