Valley’s Anderson takes 6th in 50 free, 8th in 100; Moolenaar 7th in diving, 8th in 50 free

Culver junior Hayden Lute finished fourth in the 200 freestyle and third in the 500 freestyle at the Warsaw girls swimming sectional Saturday and was the highest-finishing area swimmer in an individual event.
Lute was timed in 2:09.53 in the 200 freestyle and 5:53.22 in the 500 freestyle. Warsaw’s Anna Stevens won the 200 freestyle in 2:01.24, and Columbia City’s Erin Devito won the 500 freestyle in 5:27.14.
Only sectional champions and those swimmers reaching a difficult state qualifying standard advanced to the state finals, which begin at the Indiana University Natatorium in Indianapolis this Friday. No individual swimmer or relay team from the Warsaw sectional met the state standard in any event.
Tippecanoe Valley sophomore Bailey Anderson took sixth in the 50 freestyle in 27.54 seconds and eighth in the 100 freestyle in 1:03.87.
Also, Mya Drudge was 15th in the 200 freestyle, and Cassie Rich was 14th in the 200 individual medley.
Other area swimmers who reached a final included Pioneer’s Aspen Moolenaar, who finished eighth in the 50 freestyle in 28.32 seconds, and Cailyn Colford, who was eighth in the 100 backstroke in 1:12.05.
The other Lady Panther to place was Kamryn Newby, who was 14th in the 100 freestyle and 15th in the 100 backstroke. Colford was also 12th in the 200 individual medley.
In diving, Moolenaar was seventh, and teammate Gracie Clem was 11th. Valley’s Bailey Gaerte and Alexis Elliott finished 12th and 14th, respectively. Only the top four advanced to the Valparaiso diving regional Tuesday.
Rochester had no swimmers reach the finals.
Aubrey Miller was the lone Lady Z to score in all four of her events, and she partially or completely accounted for 30 of the team’s 47 points. She finished 16th in both the 50 freestyle (29.00 seconds) and the 100 freestyle (1:07.32) in her two individual events. She also swam the anchor leg on both the 200 medley and 200 freestyle relays, both of which finished 10th.
Kylie Haselby, Lily Chipps and Audrey Widman joined Miller on the 200 medley relay, and Widman, Ava Thomas and Summer Tyler joined her on the 200 freestyle relay.
The 400 freestyle relay, which consisted of Seanna Gudas, Chipps, Jenna Seuferer and Thomas, took 11th.
Other individuals scoring points included Widman, who took 14th in the 100 butterfly; Jenna Seuferer, who took 16th in the 100 butterfly; and Chipps, who placed 16th in the 100 breaststroke.
Among other relay teams, Pioneer was sixth in 2:12.73, Valley ninth in 2:17.98 out of 10 teams in the 200 medley relay.
In the 200 freestyle relay, Valley was fifth in 1:56.37 and Pioneer 11th in 2:12.65.
Valley also took sixth in the 400 freestyle relay in 4:28.54 while Pioneer was 10th in 4:31.95.
Warsaw won the team title with 409.5 points, ending Culver Academy’s streak of three straight titles.
Valley was eighth with 109 points, Pioneer ninth with 102, Rochester 11th with 47 and Culver 12th in the 12-team field with 31.
