Volleyball sweeps Argos; boys soccer falls to Peru

Caston junior Austin Dague ran a 17:48 to edge Pioneer’s Jackson Baker by eight seconds and win the Cass County Meet title at Logansport Saturday.
Only two other runners beside Baker finished within a minute of Dague.
Both the Caston boys and girls teams finished fourth in their respective races. The Lewis Cass girls and Pioneer boys won their respective team titles.
Other Caston boys runners included Caleb Stinson, who was 15th in 20:37; Marshall Finke, who was 18th in 21:29; Brady Evans, who was 19th in 21:53; Alex Craig, who was 22nd in 23:59; and Max Sommers, who was 26th in 24:54.
The top Caston girls finisher was Mackenzi Roudebush, who was seventh in 24:51. Teammate Emma Stinson was behind her in eighth in 25:26, Stevanna Young was 11th in 26:57, Maddie Sprow was 23rd in 30:35, and Autumn Garling was 24th in 30:48.
In the junior high races, Caston had both incomplete girls and boys teams. Hadlie Coffing, who was fifth, was the fastest Caston girl in 14:46. Josiah Helt, who was sixth, was the Caston boys frontrunner in 13:08.

Volleyball
Caston def. Argos, 25-11, 25-7, 25-11 (Tuesday): Isabel Scales had 27 points, nine aces, eight digs, eight serves received and a block to lead Caston to a home win over Argos Tuesday.
Maddi Smith had 11 kills, and Abby Williamson added nine. Smith also had eight digs to tie Scales for team-high honors. Annie Harsh had 11 points and 16 assists. Delaney Lowry had 10 assists.
“The Comets had strong serving and were able to control the momentum tonight,” Caston coach Melinda Shultz said in a statement. “It gave us a chance to finalize a lineup and run some quick plays and fakes that we haven’t been pulling off consistently.”
Caston also prevailed in the JV match 25-10, 25-10. Makenna Middleton led in assists, and Macee Hinderlider and Breana Alezquita led in kills, per Shultz’s statement.

Peru 3, Caston 1 (Tuesday): The Comets fell to host Peru Tuesday to drop 1-4-1.
Peru led 2-0 at halftime. Conner Shaffer scored twice, and Alvaro Benavente also scored for Peru.
Caston hosts Wabash at 5:30 p.m. Thursday.
