Caston 48, DeMotte Christian 30 (Tuesday): Logan Mollenkopf scored a game-high 16 points, and Lane Hook scored nine of his 13 in the second half as the Comets beat DeMotte Christian in a Class 1A, Sectional 50 quarterfinal at Tri-County Tuesday.
Reed Sommers added nine, including seven in the third quarter.
Caston won their seventh straight game and improved to 13-10. They will play West Central, a 70-41 winner over South Newton, in the semifinals at 6 p.m. Friday.
Caston made 11 of 14 free throws while DeMotte Christian was just 2 for 6. Caston committed nine turnovers while DeMotte Christian had 18.
Tony Bos led DeMotte Christian, a reigning sectional champion, with 13 points. Tanyon Bakker added nine.
DeMotte Christian lost their fifth straight game to finish 9-15.
Caston held the Knights to two points in the second quarter in building a 17-10 halftime lead. They expanded the lead to 33-17 after three quarters.
Caston lost to West Central 63-62 Jan. 18 in their regular season meeting.
