Calloway runs personal best 20:52, finishes 7th at New Haven Invite

Valley’s Marquez runs 18:35 in boys AA race

Rochester junior Allyson Calloway ran a personal-best 20:52 and finished seventh out of 106 runners in the girls Class A race at the New Haven Invitational Saturday.

Elkhart Christian topped a nine-team field with 66 points. Rochester had an incomplete team.

Manchester senior Ayla Cashdollar won the race in 19:31.

Beside Calloway, other Rochester runners included Brooklyn Chandler, who was 57th in 25:55; and Emah Bradley, who was 103rd in 34:00.

In the boys Class A race, Rochester sophomore Leandro Javier finished in 58th place in a field of 182 runners in 19:49.

Monroe Central won with 123 points to top a field of 20 teams. Rochester had an incomplete team.

Lapel’s Simon Nickelson won in 16:13, and only one other runner was within a minute of him.

In the Class AA girls race, the top Valley finisher was senior Bailey Bussard, who was 59th in a field of 154 runners in 23:19. Other Valley runners included freshman Katie Sterk, who was 122nd in 26:22; McKenna Lowe, who was 124th in 26:39; and Ava Minix, who was 147th in 29:52.

Leo’s Rowyn Norris won the race in 18:24.

Hamilton Heights won the race with 72 points, 11 fewer than runner-up Fort Wayne Dwenger. Valley had an incomplete team.

Meanwhile, the Valley boys scored 373 points and finished 14th in a field of 15 complete teams in their Class AA race. West Noble eked out the win with 94 points. Runner-up Wawasee had 96, and third-place Hamilton Heights had 98.

The Valley frontrunner was Christopher Marquez, who took 46th in a field of 165 runners after running an 18:35. Other Viking striders included Eli Sterk, who was 86th in 20:01; Isaac Whetstone, who was 103rd in 20:50; Luis Nuñez, who was 111th in 21:06; Gavin Leininger, who was 153rd in 24:42; Michael Leininger, who was 158th in 26:33; Simeon Skipper, who was 161st in 27:22; and Christian Guzman, who was 163rd in 28:13.
