Boys tennis draw: Rochester gets bye, awaits Wabash or Mac

Valley to play host Warsaw

The Rochester boys tennis team received a bye to the semifinals, according to the IHSAA draw revealed Monday.

The Zebras will open postseason play against either Wabash or Maconaquah at 5:15 p.m. Thursday at Peru.

Rochester already owns wins over both. They beat Maconaquah 5-0 on Aug. 28 and beat Wabash 3-2 on Sept. 11.

The Wabash-Maconaquah match is scheduled for 5:15 p.m. Wednesday.

In the other half of the draw, Peru will play Manchester in a semifinal at 5:15 p.m. Wednesday.

Peru is the six-time defending sectional champion, and they have won 33 sectionals all-time. Rochester is seeking their first sectional title since 1983.

The sectional champion feeds into the Bluffton regional.

As for Tippecanoe Valley, they will play sectional host Warsaw at 4:30 p.m. Wednesday in the quarterfinal.

The Warsaw-Valley winner will play Whitko in the semifinals at 4:30 p.m. Thursday. The sectional final is set for 9 a.m. Saturday.

In the other half of the draw, Wawasee will meet Columbia City in a semifinal at 4:30 p.m. Thursday.

Warsaw is the defending sectional champion and a 34-time sectional champion. Valley has never won a boys tennis sectional.

The sectional champion feeds into the NorthWood regional.

Regionals are Oct . 8-9. semistates are Oct. 12, and the state finals will be Oct. 18-19 at North Central High School in Indianapolis.

Admission is free at all sectionals statewide.
