Wittenberg University followed Makenna Strycker to every game she played this summer with her Indiana Pride 17-and-under AAU team.

And beginning next year, Wittenberg will get to see the Pioneer senior even more after Strycker signed to continue her basketball and athletic careers there Friday.

Wittenberg is an NCAA Division III school located in Springfield, Ohio.

Strycker verbally committed back on July 28.

“I chose Wittenberg because the coaches, they just had a really good connection with me,” Strycker said. “They followed me through the whole summer. It just seemed like the best fit for me for next year, and I was going to come in for the team and hopefully be a role player, and the coaches really just implemented that for me.”

Strycker described Wittenberg’s style of play as “quick.”

“We went and we watched one of their games, and it was just fast, fast, fast,” Strycker said. “They want a steal. They want to go. They want a steal. They want a 3. It’s just quick, quick, quick. There’s no slowing down. Obviously, there’s a shot clock in college, but I didn’t see them ever get down to the shot clock. They just get shots off so quick.”

Strycker said she’s been to Springfield “a couple times” before.

“It’s like Kokomo but bigger,” Strycker said.

Since it is a Division III school, Wittenberg does not offer athletic scholarships, but Strycker said she will be receiving academic scholarships based on her GPA and early admission.

“There’s ways to get scholarship money without getting it through sports,” Strycker said.

Strycker said she wants to be a lawyer.

“I’m going to major in prelaw and minor in criminal justice,” Strycker said. “And I’ll go in next year as a sophomore.”

Strycker was asked if she looked at basketball officials like judges.

“Yeah,” Strycker said. “It’s kind of like one judge can say something, and it will change your whole life, and one referee can say something, and it can change your whole game. So you’ve just got take it as it is.”
