All-RTC4 boys tennis: After an undefeated regular season, Reinartz is Player of the Year

BY VAL TSOUTSOURIS

Sports Editor, RTC

RTC4 Boys Tennis Player of the Year Tanner Reinartz

Since the start of the All-RTC4 teams in 2020, we have never had a boy win Athlete of the Year in two different sports. Until now.

Tanner Reinartz is our RTC4 Boys Tennis Player of the Year five months after he won the same award for baseball.

Reinartz had the best season a Rochester player has had since Quique Pomares-Perego in 2017, and while Reinartz did not have the singles state tournament run that Pomares-Perego had, he had an undefeated regular season that Pomares-Perego did not.

Reinartz also headlines our All-RTC4 boys tennis team.

We would like to thank our area coaches Mason Heyde and Thadd Mellott for sending us their scores and giving us insights about their teams.

Having said that, this list is our responsibility and no one else’s. We place an extra emphasis on head-to-head results, especially in conference and postseason matches.

Trystyn Ragon William Mellott

All-RTC4 singles

  • Tanner Reinartz (Rochester) (Player of the Year) – Reinartz has both a serve-and-volley game, but he’s also a very underrated defensive player who can retrieve shots that would be winners for most other opponents. Add to the fact that he is an intense competitor, and he was an easy choice.

  • Tristyn Ragon (Tippecanoe Valley) – Ragon is 6-3 and with his height, wingspan and athleticism was able to track down balls all over the court.

  • William Mellott (Tippecanoe Valley) – Mellott started the year at No. 2 singles but moved his way up to No. 1 as he gained more consistency and placement with his strokes.

Ian Cooksey Thad Shambaugh Harrison Dunwoody Brady Morgan

All-RTC4 doubles

  • Ian Cooksey-Thad Shambaugh (Tippecanoe Valley) – They did not end the season together, but the best doubles team we saw this season was Cooksey and Shambaugh. This was a very athletic team with a strong presence at the net.

  • Harrison Dunwoody-Brady Morgan (Rochester) – Morgan had some success at singles this year before he returned to partner up with Dunwoody, as he did in 2023.

Honorable mention singles

  • Wade Bowers (Rochester)

Honorable mention doubles

  • Carter Merideth-Ashton Musselman (Rochester)

RTC4 Players of the Year

  • 2020: Payton Mills (Tippecanoe Valley)

  • 2021: Annikan Pettit-Cooper Walls (Tippecanoe Valley)

  • 2022: Jake Freeman-Drew Strasser (Rochester)

  • 2023: Cameron Manuel (Tippecanoe Valley)

  • 2024: Tanner Reinartz (Rochester)
