Ethan Petz, a talented senior playmaker from Argos, had a heartbreaking end to his senior season when the Dragons lost to Lakeland Christian in the sectional final.
Still, his impact on games cannot be overlooked. He went from one goal as a freshman to four as a sophomore to six as a junior to 11 as a senior.
He also led the Dragons with 14 assists.
Given his accomplishments and given how he allowed his teammates to shine, Petz is the RTC Boys Soccer Player of the Year.
Petz also leads our All-RTC boys soccer team. It is a team without any one prolific goal scorer but a team that is solid through all parts of the field.
We would like to thank area coaches for sending us their scores and statistics, and we thank them for sharing insights on their program with us.
Having said that, this list is ours and ours alone, and we take full responsibility for it.
All-RTC
Ethan Petz (Argos) (Player of the Year) – Petz has a creative mind for the game, but he also became more physically imposing this season.
Luke Stults (Argos) – The 6-5 Stults was a menace for opponents when the ball was in the air, but he also improved on his ball skills as well. He finished with 13 goals and seven assists.
Sean Stark (Winamac) – Who led all area players in goals with 17? It was this rugged sophomore forward from Winamac.
Kenyan Beldon (Argos) – Beldon had 13 goals and eight assists, and at 5-9, he was another good distributor of the ball.
Wyatt Davis (Rochester) – Davis was a defender once, but that was a long time ago. He moved to striker as a senior, and while his 15 goals led the team, he also showed some nifty passing on his way to 10 assists.
Ben Zahm (Argos) – Zahm scored four goals, but he was usually the first line of defense against the top scorer on the opponent.
Brock Hook (Caston) – Hook polished his finishing skills this season and became one of the top goal scorers in the area.
Jan Aguilar-Mendez (Caston) – Aguilar-Mendez became more of a playmaker as a senior after being depended on to finish plays his first three years. Aguilar-Mendez both gained in strength, and his new role took advantage of his creativity.
Grant Bailey (Rochester) – Bailey was Rochester’s top defender, and as the season progressed, he became more and more comfortable using his speed to dribble upfield and set up a counterattack.
Keagan Stanley (Argos) – After not scoring at all his first two seasons, Stanley blossomed as a junior on the left wing, scoring 11 goals and dishing out seven assists.
Julian Rosas (Tippecanoe Valley) – Rosas was the top goalkeeper in the area and a great team leader.
