Lewellen brothers combine for 7 wins at Eastern Relays; Duncan signs with Manchester for golf

Softball
Pioneer 10, Frontier 0 (5 innings, Monday): Hailey Gotshall had two doubles and a homer and drove in four runs, and Kylie Farris went 4 for 4 with two RBIs and three runs scored for Pioneer in a shutout win over visiting Frontier Monday.
Hailey Cripe pitched a one-hitter. She struck out 14 of the 16 batters she faced.
Cripe also had two hits and two RBIs at the plate. Mackenzie Robinson and Jocelynn Vincent each had a hit and an RBI.

Pioneer 5, Lewis Cass 0 (Thursday): Hailey Cripe singled, doubled and homered at the plate and also pitched a two-hit shutout in the circle for the host Lady Panthers in a win over Lewis Cass Thursday.
Cripe walked one and struck out 15.
Cripe’s .780 batting average leads the state, according to MaxPreps.com. She also has 10 home runs.
Cripe had two RBIs. Brooklyn Borges, Mackenzie Robinson and Hailey Gotshall each had two hits and an RBI.
Adeline Cripe, Emma Novaski and Crystabelle Blickenstaff each had a hit.

Softball team moves up to No. 3: The Pioneer softball team moved up from No. 7 to No. 3 in this week’s Class 2A coaches poll. Sectional rivals Boone Grove, Winamac, Hebron and North Judson are Nos. 4, 15, 19 and 30, respectively.
Tecumseh is No. 1, and Union County is No. 2.
The sectional is May 24-29 at Winamac Town Park.

Pioneer 6-5, LaVille 3-9 (Saturday): The Pioneer baseball team split a Hoosier North doubleheader with visiting LaVille Saturday.
Pioneer won the first game 6-3. LaVille won the second game 9-5.

Pioneer boys 3rd, girls 6th at Eastern Relays (Saturday): Addai Lewellen won four blue ribbons, and Ezra Lewellen won three blue ribbons for the Pioneer boys track team as they finished third out of 12 teams at the Eastern (Greentown) Relays Saturday.
Addai Lewellen won the long jump and 100 meters. Ezra Lewellen won the 110 hurdles. They also combined with Ryan Adams and Brandon Cearing to win the boys sprint medley and with Kenzie Rogers and Mandee Weisenburger to win the coed 4 x 200 relay.
Addai Lewellen earned 25 points and was named the Most Outstanding Athlete at the meet.
Other top eight finishers included Ezra Lewellen, who was second in the long jump; Blair Grigsby, who was third in the high jump with a personal best clearance of 4-8; Anna Lela, who long-jumped 13-11 to set a new personal best and finish fourth; Jackson Baker, who was fourth in the 1,600 in a personal-best 4:57; Ryan Adams, who was fifth in the pole vault; Esther McKaig, who was fifth in the shot put; Weisenburger, who was sixth in the 100 hurdles; Brandon Cearing, who was sixth in the pole vault; and Kennedy Corn, who was eighth in the shot put.
The girls 4 x 400 relay team, which consisted of Rogers, Lela, Maggie Steffel and Grigsby, was fifth in a team-best 4:45. The boys distance medley relay team of Carson Meyer, Cearing, Adams and Baker took fourth.
Girls golf
Duncan signs with Manchester University: Pioneer senior Katelyn Duncan has signed to continue her academic and golf careers at Manchester University.
Duncan is also a member of the state championship-winning girls basketball team and ranks 12th in the senior class academically.
