The IHSAA has appointed former LaPorte athletic director Ed Gilliland as an Associate Commissioner.
As part of the newly created position, Gilliland will work with new athletic administrators, provide support for other member schools and assist with officials’ recruitment and retention, according to an IHSAA media release.
Gilliland will also provide support at IHSAA state tournament events, attend member school regular season athletic events and IHSAA Principal meetings and “be available for opportunities to promote the values of education-based athletics.”
Gilliland retired this summer after 25 years as the LaPorte athletic director. He serves the last seven years on the IHSAA Executive Committee.
