Molebash fans 10 for Lady Cavs

Westville 3, Culver 2 (Saturday): Brooke Davis had two hits, and Brianna Schlemmer had an RBI double in the first inning, but the Culver softball team lost to Westville 3-2 in the Class 1A, Sectional 50 final at Westville Saturday.
Savannah Schlemmer had a double, and Abigayle Zehner had a single for Culver (6-14).
Culver scored both of their runs in the bottom of the first to take a 2-0 lead. Zehner scored on an error, and Schlemmer’s double scored Breana Hamilton, who had entered as a courtesy runner for Gracie Milam.
Culver had three hits in the first innings but only two hits the rest of the game against Westville starter Kierstin Vargas.
Westville tied the game in the fifth on Makenna Warren’s RBI single and Livia Stark’s RBI double.
Vargas’ two-out RBI double in the seventh gave Westville their first lead.
Savannah Schlemmer led off the bottom of the seventh with a double. With two outs, Davis reached on an error, advancing to Savannah Schlemmer to third.
Vargas then struck out Aiden Molebash to end the game.
Molebash pitched a seven-hitter with one walk and 10 strikeouts. She allowed two earned runs.
All nine players in Culver’s lineup are either freshmen or sophomores.
Culver has never won a sectional title in softball.
