Mosson replaces Kyle Evans, who stepped down after four seasons to take an assistant coaching position with the men’s basketball team at Marian University Ancilla.
This will be the first boys basketball head coaching position for Mosson, a 2013 Triton grad. He was previously the girls basketball coach at Madison-Grant, compiling a 12-11 record in his lone season in 2021-22.
Mosson has previous assistant coaching experience at Triton, Argos and Peru, among other schools.
Coaches that he has worked for as an assistant coach include Jason Groves, Gordon Mosson and Eric Thompson.
Mosson is the second of Triton’s Groves’ former assistants to get a head coaching job this offseason: Former Triton JV coach and 2013 Tippecanoe Valley grad Nick Kindig got the Argos boys job last month.
Gordon Mosson is Drew Mosson’s father. Gordon Mosson was the boys basketball coach at John Glenn from 1982-2007 and Argos from 2014-21. He won a record 10 Bi-County titles as well as six sectional titles and one regional title in his coaching career.
Mosson takes over the Cavaliers at a time when the Hoosier North Athletic Conference is making membership changes. LaVille and Knox have left for the new Indiana Northern State Conference, and Argos, Oregon-Davis and North Miami were brought in to replace them. That leaves the Hoosier North with nine schools for basketball.
Culver will also be in Class 1A, Sectional 51, per the new sectional alignments released in April. The other seven teams include Hoosier North rivals Argos, North Judson, Oregon-Davis and Triton as well as Elkhart Christian, South Central (Union Mills) and Trinity Greenlawn.
Culver’s last sectional title came in 2014.
Culver graduates Jack Rodgers, who led the team in scoring (20.3 points per game), rebounding and assists last year. Brady Kindernay also graduates and foreign exchange student and third-leading scorer Adria Guasp returns to Spain.
Top returnees expected back include David Hite (11.3 ppg), twin brothers Caleb and Jonas McCuen, Ethan Binion, Logan Caudill and Adam Peterson.
Mosson’s first game is tentatively scheduled for Nov. 27 at Rochester.
